You are absolutely correct that these things are not terribly obvious to the user. Users in a client that supports markdown in kind 1 who then switch to a client that doesn't will just think that the second client has a bug that needs fixing.

I take it as a sign that Nostr is a true innovation and a new kind of internet. Legacy software industry and platform tactics were mostly proven to be ineffective on a truly decentralized network. And unlike Bitcoin, there's no monetary value to events that can justify a centralized "Nostr" company nor any way to inject yourself as a middleman to economic activity on it.
