Vacation in the same place every year, dinner out at the same restaurant every night.
It makes sense in a way. The marginal value of finding a new favorite restaurant shrinks as your expected remaining life shrinks. You also had more time finding the restaurant that is a perfect fit for you already. The less you have the more you value the freedom to go get more. The more you have the more you value protection of your assets. This one cuts especially hard if you view the world as zero sum.
The issue is where does it leave the world if that is how everyone in charge thinks? A world driven by reactionary fear of any change good or bad.
