The NGO Barrios de Pie carried out a survey of working class districts in Buenos Aires and 19 other provinces. A large majority of respondents reported suffering hunger.
62% say they have skipped meals or gone at least one entire day without eating this past month. The UN World Food Program classifies this as “severe food insecurity.”
80% cannot afford to eat meat, dairy, fruits, or vegetables every day.
30% say they can only afford meat once per week.
76% say they have been forced to borrow money to feed themselves in the past month.
Inflation is now at 289% under Javier Milei and he has cut all funding for the popular soup kitchens that up 5 million Argentinians relied on.
